THE FUNDAMENTALS OF DIGITAL PRINTING

Ansel Adams was once quoted as saying that the negative (or digital file) is the score and that the print is the actual performance. Digital printing is truly an art in itself and in this presentation you will learn all of the basic ingredients to make your performance and your prints truly outstanding. Subjects covered in this presentation include monitor calibration, aspect ratios, ppi vs dpi, ICC profiles and how to install them, soft proofing, paper types and many other relevant topics. Although geared for Epson printers this is indispensable knowledge for any photographer doing their own printer regardless of brand. I use Lightroom Classic for all printing and a working knowledge of the software is highly recommended.

CLUB CRITIQUE

All photographers enjoy having their work critiqued in a noncompetitive setting. In this presentation a link will be sent in advance to all members of the camera club - through the administrator - and will be given the opportunity to submit several images to be constructively critiqued and to learn how to make the images more emotional and powerful All editing will be done using Lightroom Classic and a working knowledge of the program is highly recommended. Emphasis will be placed on the overall composition, overall impact especially emotional input and not as much on the purely technical aspects of the image. I have done a lot of judging and am very good at making very constructive ideas to improve your images. Due to the extra work involved in the Critique the cost if $165.00.

THE ART OF BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY

With the resurgence of film photography black and white photography is back in the spotlight. Although aimed at digital photography many of the aspects and concepts of black and white photography apply to film photography as well. The presentation begins with a brief overview and discussion of the images created by the “masters” of black and white photography and what we learn from them. Topics of discussion and demonstration include shadow, contrast, tones, shapes, texture, composition and emotion. Using Lightroom Classic I will convert some color files into black and white along with a discussion of color theory and how it applies to black and white images

ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY : A Personal Journey

What is abstract photography? Just an out of focus image - hardly! Abstract photography can take on so many different forms its hard to pin down an exact definition. That is what makes it so fascinating. In this presentation I will cover and discuss the many forms of abstract photography and the techniques used to create them. Simplicity, composition, angle of view, lighting, harmony and most importantly mystery. I discuss how to create effective abstract images using everyday objects, using design elements, using macro lenses, shooting through objects, capturing motion, playing with lighting and how to create a home studio to create and capture abstract images.

JUDGING

I also offer my services as an experienced judge of photography for both competitive and noncompetitive contests. My minimal fee for judging is $50.00 which can vary depending on the nature of the competition.

All presentations run for approximately 75 to 90 minutes with time for input and questions from your members. There is a nominal fee of $150.00 for presentations. Please use the contact form on the website to contact me to check for available dates and to reserve a presentation for your club.
